Set on a former coconut plantation near Pantai Cenang beach, deluxe Langkawi hotels Bon Ton Resort and Restaurant was voted one of the best 101 hotels in the world by Tatler in 2009. Bon Ton’s owner is Australian expat Narelle McMurtrie, who also runs a private animal shelter with over 100 stray cats and dogs next-door called the Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary (or LASSIE for short). It has a no-kill policy and instead acts to rehabilitate sick and injured animals before returning them to their natural environment where possible. Narelle uses profits from Bon Ton to fund the center. Bon Ton Resort has 8 individually styled Malay antique villas as well as the Nam restaurant, one of the best on Langkawi.
